Walk along the Traumpfad trails along the Mosel
Walk the hiking trails along the Mosel
Lined by sun-drenched vineyard terraces and steep slate covered slopes, the river Mosel meanders in many loops through pristine countryside.
The traditional Riesling grows here and can be tasted during a break in one of the many small wineries and vintners’ cottages selling the wine. Numerous locks invite the hiker to watch the shipping on the river, picturesque chapels and proud castles tell of bygone times. Particularly attractive for hikers along the Mosel is the wild romantic Ehrenburg in the middle of dense forests, carrying the visitor deep into the Middle Ages. The following trails invite the hiker:
Hike in the glorious colourful Maifeld
Not far from the Mosel lies the Maifeld, a multifaceted, largely agricultural landscape. In springtime, wide fields of rapeseed and phacelia (scorpion weed) turn the Maifeld into a brilliant yellow and blue patchwork carpet. In summer and autumn the fields are golden with wheat and barley.
Wide plateaus offer magnificent views over narrow side valleys. In one of these side valleys enthroned above the river Elz is “the” German medieval knight’s castle − Eltz Castle.
